…a traffic cone, a traffic cone… my kingdom for a traffic cone…

Master Gallacher’s travels continued last weekend… from the vast urban sprawl that is Manchester, the great Iron Horse system crossed the Pennines and up into North of Hadrian’s Wall and reached an even sprawlier urban metropolis in the guise of Glasgow… my home city… welcomed home for the latter part of the train journey by the presence of a gentlemen of military occupation who had indulged rather more electric soup than would have laid flat a rhinoceros (if a rhinoceros were ever allowed an alcohol license)… his constant and uberloud stream of gibberish was brought to an abrupt halt somewhere around Motherwell Station… we were all in the first class compartment, including the returning soldier-man, when an elegantly attired lady, of equally attractive personal looks, rose to put on her jacket prior to leaving the train… Mister Military shouted to her hey, are you single?’… she replied ‘No’… he then shouted, ‘would you like to be married?’… over her shoulder as she left the carriage, she called back to him, ‘yes… but not to you!’… the ensuing laughter from the rest of the passengers seemed to have a strangely quieting effect on the would be Casanova …ah, Scots, lassies, eh?… the overnight stop in Glasgow enabled the congregation of more fellow-trudgers on the Web, in the superb company of Frank Muir, Carole, Barb Taub, Judith Walker and family (with hubby and son in magnificent triumverence)…

…external walkies provided the opportunity to get photographed with the statue of the ‘Chookie Wellin’tin’, aka The Duke of Wellington, adorned with its ubiquitous traffic cone (see above)… straight from the Glasgow Corporation Roadways Millinery Department… clip-clopping away from the Wellington Equestrian, I caught up with my sister Kate

  5. Looks as though the fun is continuing, Seumas. Now I’m wondering who put the traffic cone way up there. Looks like someone in Glasgow demonstrated a great sense of humor as I somehow doubt the Duke of Wellington climbed down and adorned his own head. Good pictures, ๐Ÿ˜€ — Suzanne
