…to keep it, yeez have to give it away… and I don’t mean money… ‘paying it forward’…

…to think of any Scotsman giving anything away, runs contrary to the mythic caricature of the miserly Caledonian with triple locks on the wallet in his sporran… a legend put about, it’s said, by dastardly English persons deflecting their own paucity of charitable inclination… be that as it may or may not be, this ol’ Jurassic Scot has learned a basic truism of Life generally… to keep it, yeez have to give it away… and I don’t mean money… sounds daft, I know, but think on this… the number of times yeez’ve witnessed sumb’dy extending a kindness to another human being… simple things sum’times, such as we were taught as schoolkids… helping older people to cross the road… often it’s a gratuitous smile when the recipient has endured a tough day… yeez have no idea how much reaching out can help that person to keep their day hanging together for another 24 hours… sitting on a park bench and opening a friendly conversation with yer neighbour on that bench… maybe the only human contact they’ll get all day… in the writing universe we talk of ‘paying it forward’… the practice of helping other scribblers with encouragement in the way of ReTweets about their latest book launch… a Facebook comment, remarking on how well they look… and on that subject, yeez’ve no idea how many of the good folks on these channels have little other civilised communication in their lives, mostly as a result of circumstances not of their doing or choice… Life’s like that sum’times… with no expectation of getting anything back from doing this stuff, (coz that’s not the deal), it’s amazing how frequently I get little messages from my SOSYAL NETWURKIN friends with a ‘thanks for this’, and an ’appreciation of that’

…there’s the real payback, Lads and Lassies of Blog Land, and I’m LUVVIN IT!… if yeez aren’t into it yet, climb aboard, pay it forward, and enhance yer own lives and just maybe, those of others… see yeez later… LUV YEEZ!

  10. Thanks Seumas. One of the best ways to feel happy about life is to make someone else’s day, isn’t it. In my old counseling days, we relieved a great deal of sadness by encouraging clients to volunteer and make a positive difference in the lives of others. The high is better than a drug.
