…SOSYAL NETWURKS… boon or bane for Authors?…

facebooktw…just been responding on Facebook to a question about using the SOSYAL NETWURKS… is it useful for Authors, or just a bluudy distraction?… I s’pose, like most, things, it can be pretty much whatever yeez choose to make it… for this ol’ Jurassic it is a vital, integral part of my overall approach to the ‘business of writing’…. used properly, there is no more effective, cost-conscious means to tell the WURLD about my wee crime thriller masterpieces… some of yeez Lads and Lassies of Blog Land are uncomfortable about having to wear the dual hats of scribbler, and just about-everything-else in this modern quill-scrapers’ universe… google+linked inat first, I too, felt that p’raps overly much time was being expended on the non-writing stuff on places like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, and so on, but I began to develop enormous pleasure from the genuine pals’ interaction on there as well… treating each new connection as a ‘friendly business relationship’ link is important… doing Guest Blog Post visits to and from tons of different sources (not all Guests are Authors, by the way,) is not only fun, but helps to spread further yer catchment base for potential readership… it’s not easy to limit yer time on each of these channels, but it is worth trying to instill some discipline on yer daily /weekly routines… make the SOSYAL MEDYA participation part of yer ‘writing business’… however, there are far too many choices for one wee brain to handle, and not enuff finger-tapping time on the computer to manage more than a handful of them… I chose a few and concentrated on these to maximise their usefulness… yeez can have a look if yeez want at my SELF-PUBLISHING STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL SALES, where I lay out how it WURKED for me… I hope it’s of some help to any of yeez who are struggling to get yer platforms built, or how to engage sensibly with the Web… failing that, we could always start a 12-step program.. SOSYAL NETWURKS Anonymous… hi, my name’s Seumas, and I’m a… see yeez later… LUV YEEZ!

  1. That’s good feedback, Seumas. Because i’m often tempted to just give up the social network junk. I can’t give it a good effort as it is (working full time, under horrid corrupt managers, i’m so drained i can barely write, let alone do networking and marketing). But i make as much of a dent in the social media it as i’m able. So i value your opinions here. Have a marvelous Monday. Hugs. 🙂

    • …i agree … give up the junk part… translate the other part into (a) ‘business of writing’ part and (b`) some fun with growing your pals’ relationships, which is also part of the (a) bit! :):) mwaaah, m’lady, Teagan :):)

  2. Each person has a different tale to tell. I guess it’s a matter of finding what works for you, if anything. When one tries to do a lot of things it’s impossible to know what might be effective. Of course if there are no sales at all…

  3. I just do what I can, Seumas. I think that’s all any of us can do. I didn’t get on Facebook for some time, but I enjoy it now and see how it’s useful. On Linkedin they keep trying to find jobs for me. I’m not really ready to go to a job, but I don’t know how to stop them. I suppose I can let someone else know about the jobs. 😀 It’s a good connection with others. I listed myself as a self-employed,writer, but they’re still trying to put me to work. 😀

    • ..with LinkedIn . it’s possible to ‘search’ for ‘writers, readers groups, publishers’ . etc… if you want, have a look at my LinkedIn pages connections, and click ;’follow ‘ on the ones who are obviously in our line of interest `.>;):) that’s simply how i did it 🙂

  4. It’s all about relationships (and time management and keeping a clear vision on why you are there – or we all will need that 12 step program!)
Your book is bound to be a big help to many
