…okay, okay, okay, I promise yeez I’m not trying to pitch for sainthood… Gawd knows there’s tons of stuff on the debit side that’d cancel that idea in a Noo Yawk minute… but I wanna pass on a wee sum’thing that’s made a huge impact on this ol’ Jurassic over the years… it’s this, Mabel… ‘yeez keep it by giving it away’… and we’re not talking money here… the other day, I was in the middle of doing a Guest Post piece for my great pal Sally Cronin’ s superb ‘Defining Moments’ blog… the post on that will be aired I believe around January 25th… however, one of the things I was led to contemplate (that’s ‘think about’, Mabel) was precisely that… Defining Moments… I could have included tons of pivotal times when these occurred for me, but one thing they’d all have in common, was the intercession of other people, the majority of them good-hearted folks who did sum’thing for me unbidden…the WURLD at present has gone even crazier than usual with all the malevolence and horrific stuff that fills the 24/7 News Network Channels… but every day, every minute, people are doing good things for others, some of whom they know, some they’ve never met… these are the men and women who make a difference in a positive way… it needn’t take much… sum’times it’s just a smile, or a ‘hello’ to a stranger…
…and right here, in the heart of quill-scraper country we can each add a tiny bit to that positive buzz… Authors, yeez wanna make a difference?… help other scribblers… a kind tweet… a share on Facebook… a review if ye’re into that… a kind WURD at the right time… as I’ve quoted on here before… ‘everybody yeez meet, and I mean EVERYBODY, is fighting some sort of battle yeez know NUTHIN about’… be kind… see yeez later… LUV YEEZ!…

Truer words were never spoken. A kind word or gesture cost you nothing, but could yield large dividends. I love your writing Seumas. I smile everytime because the wee voice in me head reads it with a bit’o the accent 🙂

From the hills of Tennessee originally. I’m what some might call a hillbilly, but we prefer the term Appalachian American 😉

Appalachian Americans mostly came from the hills of Scotland, Ireland and the coast of Cornwall Shaun. Take it from this KY gal who visited the hollers of Kentucky and knows the taste of moonshine.

Sharing another of Seumus Gallachers ‘ah ha’ moments – not just because he mentioned me.. but he is right. Most of us have thousands of tweets going through our threads each day and you don’t see them all.. I promise to retweet anything that comes through my notifications just add @sgc58 in the text.. short so does not use up much of your 140 characters.. I have this arrangement with several authors who are building their followers up and they can then take advantage of mine. It is a simple thing but hopefully makes a difference. So don’t forget next time you tweet about your latest book or post @sgc58 me. Thanks Seumas, see you on 25th just before you big launch on 27th.

Kind lady, I’ve done just that. Will look out for yours, too, although I have rather fewer Twitter followers…

Excellent suggestion. These times in general are so uncertain. To remember to look around locally and make your corner of the world a better place, that’ important now more than ever.
You never know, that one word or smile may be the only good think that happened to that person that day – or even longer.
Cheers! And thanks for the prodding

It’s very simple, Seumas. To receive you have to give. To put it another way,as I’ve said before, to have a friend you have to be a friend. 🙂

Wise words. I agree, Seumas, wholeheartedly! I’ve been ‘helping’ fellow writers for about forty years and I won’t be stopping anytime soon (I hope!).

Great post, Seumas, and so true. Thank you for ‘liking’ my poem. Does that count as your good deed for today? It certainly gets you ‘cub scout points.’ Will tweet etc about this post and include @sgc58 for Sally 🙂
