…Self-Publishing Authors, don’t let the Negative Nellies convince yeez that ye’re not successful… #TBSU…

…I’ve just had the cockles of my heart, or even the heart of my cockles, warmed by reading a terrific blog post decrying the naysayers in the publishing WURLD who believe that success can only be claimed by scribblers when they’ve sold a squillion copies of their masterpieces… here’s this ol’ Jurassic’s tuppence worth on the matter… it starts even before yeez put one WURD together with another WURD… in yer head… sumb’dy once told me, ‘if yeez think yeez can be a success, ye’re prob’ly right— if yeez think yeez can’t be, ye’re also probably right’… yeez make that choice from the outset… then it becomes a matter of definition… I prefer to think in clusters of wee gains becoming huge avalanches of great success… yeez think I’m daft?… well, so far as I know, very few people sell 10,000 copies of their wee babies on the launch date… my ‘literary crime-thrillers offspring’ have amassed 75,000+ downloads/sales in the past couple years… mostly in a slow, but steady off-take… and I rejoice in any day where I sell even one copy of any of them… that’s one of my measurements for success… but I go back even further than that… I’m sure many of yeez Lads and Lassies of Blog Land will recognise that almost indescribable feeling when yeez type ‘The End’… it’s that…  that, Messrs Naysayers, is real success… having actually completed writing a full manuscript is success, and let nobody try to convince yeez otherwise… when yeez edit for the umpteenth time, cross-eyed and bleary-brained, and yeez spot another little amendment, or correction, or enhancement, or improvement… it’s that, too… that too, is success… the development of the self-publishing author… gut-honesty tells yeez that the process is likely to last a lifetime… and when yeez realise that yeez embrace that readily… it’s that as well… that as well, is success… so to all my wonderful quill-scraper pals on here, I salute yeez all, winners, numero ones… successful, successful, successful… see yeez later… LUV YEEZ!

Love that you can say that a single sale per day is success. I count it so. I hit that mark (on average) in April, and very nearly in May, and I’m happy about it!

  9. Only one of my books ever sold more than a 1000 copies per month during its first six months Seumas. Now Its sales are back to slow and steady along with the others. Nothing wrong with slow and steady… 😉

  13. So very true, sir! Success is what we make of it. The best success for me? In writing and self publishing my own scribbles, I’ve met a bunch or really awesome inkslinger and mentors… look in the mirror and you’ll see one. That man.

  14. The best part of writing is the journey. If you have embarked on the journey… you’ve won.

Love your work, my friend. Keep on encouraging. Many of us need it.
