…Bad is Good… but REALLY Bad is REALLY Good… #TBSU…

…writing for other people to read yer WURK is a wonderful trip… however, I’m convinced if ye scribble stuff that ye like to read yerself ye get a better bang for yer quill-scraping buck… my novel-writing JONGRR of choice is crime thrillers… and none of yer subtle-nuanced criminal leger-de-mains… full-bloodied stuff, with a heavy accent on ‘bloodied’… a step or two up, I’d hope, from pure chewing-gum for the brain (and nowt wrong with that JONGRR either, by the way…)… on the rare occasion I watch a movie, I’m best hypnotised by flicks with Brucie Willis and others of his ilk… Master Stallone and company also fit the bill well… gloriously gratuitous gore galore… LUV IT… and I’ve twigged as to the why? I enjoy them so much… y’see, I was raised in another age, when the good guys always win and the baddies, thugs, villains, and ne’er-do-wells got their come-uppance as regularly as a politician tells fibs… back to Messrs Willis and Company’s blockbusters— ye don’t have to think about who the evilsters are… it’s made plain from the start… the nasties do awfully naughty stuff early in the movie, so when they eventually get the proverbial smack in the mouth, or better still, riddled with 355 bullets  (…Why did you shoot him 300 times,?…sorry, Sir, I ran out of ammo…)… we all let loose a wee internal, ‘yippee, got ‘im !’ … my attempts to wring out my crime stories lend much to this FILOSOFY… identify as early as possible in the book the mobsters, gangsters, drug-lords, people-yeez-wouldn’t-want-yer-daughters-to-be-friends-with… have them perpetrate (‘do’, Mabel, it means, ‘do’) unspeakably dreadful things, preferably against old grannies and pensioners in chapter one, or even before that if yeez can … now yeez have an ending to anticipate with glee… by all means invent creative ways to bump them off… when ye’re a scribbler, ye can blow away as many folks as ye want… and ye still don’t get done for it… oh, the power!… yeez’ll have to excuse me now, I’ve a bit of slaughtering to finish before lunch… see yeez later …

  1. “scribble stuff that ye like to read yerself ”
Much wisdom in that badly written Scotchist phrase.
Of late I have decided that I don’t care how few people buy my stuff, how many feel motivated to slag it off on Amazon or even if I bother publishing it.
It amuses me to write it, after I’ve finished it amuses me to read it.

  2. *Sorry Sir, ran out of ammo.* I nearly burst a lung from laughing there Seumas. As you may or may not know I write crime/thriller blood fests too. it started out for my own amusement and now I have a little following. I tend to say things to people that make them look twice at me. Had a mishap with the car the other day and had to rent one overnight (ouch) when I took it back the sweet young thing came out to check it over, at my insistence. I opened the boot,
SYT, “Oh that’s okay, it’s fine.”
ME, “It should be, I cleaned up after removing the severed head.”
Very strange look from SYT. Or if I’m in a hardware store I’ll ask the assistant if the extra large size toolbox would hold a dead body. You can see the colour drain from their faces.

  3. Lol – I’ve enjoyed reading your (yer?) post! Glad I’ve came across your blog. I write romance, but agree, a great story has a great villain of some sort. I don’t think you’ll be running out of ammo as long as you have the pen at hand 😉 Best of luck on the fictional slaughtering – Nothing like the power of the pen!

  4. It IS nice to have clear good and bad guys. Nice straight lines that are easy to follow. A bit dreamy, maybe, but HEY! We need our dreams. REM on Seumas. REM on.

Hi! I am leaving this comment because I would like for you to update your post with the correct link to my blog. I am going to be deleting my old site (Lorraine Reguly’s Life) and so would really appreciate it if you could update your post with a link to Wording Well. This is my new site and you will be left with a broken link if you don’t change it. I don’t want this to happen! Besides, http://wordingwell.com/ is still mine, and contains all of my posts, as I moved them with me when I got my own domain name. This may not seem like a big deal to you, but it is to me. The internet is forever – or at least until we change things, so, please, can you change this for me? (Thanks!)
