…the tides go in and out…the seasons come and go…even the biblical Ecclesiastes chappies had it, “…a time for tearing down, and a time for building up…”...as Master Gallacher has grown marginally more savvy about the quirks and nuances of the Amazon Kindle phenomenon, a few things have become apparent…not the least is the early awareness that the fleeting moments that grace your masterpieces by appearing in the top 5, 50, 500, 5000 or so, soon get matched with appearances in the top 50,000, followed by the top 500,000, then top 5,000,000...and so it goes…however, here’s the thing…if ye have more than one tome listed, ye can pop just ONE of these at a time every quarter on to the 5-day free promo gig…chances are yer sales have already done the huge bell-curve manoeuvre and are languishing lower than a politician’s popularity…so, nothing to lose by getting visibility, Mabel,...AND ye keep yer other little literary gems with their respective price labels...in the past, these promo/priced cycles have served this ‘umble quill-scraper well…downloads exceeding 60,000 now, and the ratio comfortably better than 1:1 in favour of the paids...there’s tons of new indies, self-publishing authors coming on every day…that’s why ye can’t expect to be top of the rankings for any abnormal stretch… but equally, if yer doing yer ‘building the platform’ bit constantly, logic says there should be more potential readers (BUYERS!) coming along, too…ergo, THE VIOLIN MAN’S LEGACY, my original foray into Planet Author, is careening into the promo space again this week…from West Coast Pacific Time midnight 11th/morning12th. …if ye haven’t got it yet, fill yer boots…if ye have got , tell yer pals …ye can NEVER have too much musclin’ it, Mabel… except when Matron’s on the way with her bluudy syringe , like now,… gotta go…see yeez later…

From one Scotsman to another (my family roots are Stevenson and Lovett) I appreciate your thoughts about freebies. My hesitation to embrace suggestions such as you and others offer is that I write non-fiction on military leadership, far afield from pulp fiction . I need to learn whether some of the rules for fiction translate properly and adequately to my type of books (my sixth soon to reach cyberspace as an e-book).
Hi Bob, good to know you, that man…I’m certainly no expert on what does work or not in any genre…in general terms, I would suggest that if you have built a following (see my previous ten million posts ad nauseum on that !) If you haven’t been on ebook basis yet, I’d recommend trying it oiut … at least you don’t have the expense that relates to hard copy stuff… if you have an agent, perhaps some ideas from there?..
