…they say ye can’t teach an old dog new tricks, Mabel…well, I’m certainly not classified in the ‘younger set’ brigade…but I reckon we might just be provin’ them all wrong…less than a year ago, this old fa*t knew less than zero about how Blogs and stuff work…comes then the flush of modest success in uploading a couple of best-selling novels to Kindle…adapting to the dreadfully baffling world of the SOSYAL NETWURKS was suggested…nay, demanded…get yer a*se on to Twitter and ‘BUILD THE PLATFORM’ they exhorted…hustle on to Facebook, and ‘BUILD THE PLATFORM’ they screeched…claw yer way into Goodreads and ‘BUILD THE PLATFORM’ they hollered…lounge around on LinkedIn and ‘BUILD THE PLATFORM’ they trumpeted…I think we kinda got the message…now I’ve prob’ly built more platforms in a year than the entire scaffolding industry in Europe…was it worth it, Mabel?…well, yes, I suppose I have to admit it was…BUT, it was bluudy hard work…however, Lads and Lassies of the BlogLand who may be reading this and thinking , “what the heck?”… all of it was important to feed that grail, yes, you gorrit...’BUILD THE (BLEEPING) PLATFORM’…into the mix dropped the salvation of this poor quill-scraper’s waning sanity…THE BLOG...it started merely as an adjunct to the rest of the marketing/name-building campaign…then I discovered something amazing… it’s actually FUN doing it…therapeutic to the max… and what’s more it gets me pals…Lord knows, we’re a pretty isolated, lonely kinda species at the best of times, we scribblers…so anything that helps to touch base with our kindred laptop-tappers has to be encouraged, right?…today’s recommendation (which costs ye nuthin’..no please, please, don’t send me money.. I do this for love…no, really ..) is to DO A BLOG…and let the platform -building take care of itself for a wee while… Matron’s just heard that I’m sounding off again, and she’s beltin’ down here with that syringe…I’ll have to go…see yeez later …

Amen! It *is* a relief to have a blog and connect with other authors. It’s a fun way to make friends and talk to others as ‘yourself’ instead of constantly keeping in mind how to build that blasted platform.
…but all necessary … nice feeling when it starts to gather a bit of momentum…
I agree. I fought this social media stuff and reluctantly joined it too. I love/hate it. Now the blog, when I stop procrastinating and post one, is a blast.
Keep posting.
Cheers , Dana ,,, have a great weekend ..:):)
